Your Initial Consultation

Your first visit with our neurosurgical team is an opportunity to share your concerns, better understand your condition, and explore the best path forward.

We begin by listening to your symptoms, how they affect your daily life, and what treatments you may have already tried. Your clinician will review relevant MRI or CT imaging, medical records, and prior evaluations, along with performing a focused neurological examination when appropriate.

Drawing on our team's academic neurosurgical experience and specialized clinical expertise, we'll help you understand your diagnosis and discuss treatment options tailored to your individual needs and goals.

A neurosurgical consultation does not necessarily mean surgery. Many patients benefit from nonsurgical treatment, continued observation, additional diagnostic evaluation, or coordination with other specialists. When surgery is appropriate, we'll explain the available options, expected benefits, and potential risks.

Our goal is for you to leave your consultation with greater clarity, confidence, and an understanding of your next steps.

Imaging, Records & First-Visit Preparation

A little preparation can help you get the most out of your first visit. Our goal is to make your consultation as smooth, informative, and productive as possible.

If available, please bring or arrange to share recent MRI or CT scans, imaging reports, relevant medical records, and information about treatments you've previously tried. Having the actual imaging studies, rather than reports alone, is especially helpful for a thorough neurosurgical evaluation.

We also encourage you to bring a current medication list and jot down any questions or concerns, particularly how your symptoms affect your daily life and what you hope to accomplish through treatment.

You don't need to have all the answers before your appointment. That's why we're here. If you need assistance securely transferring imaging or records, please contact the clinic where your consultation is scheduled.

Urgent Concerns Are Not Routine Scheduling

For a medical emergency, call 911 or go to an emergency department. For a time-sensitive concern that is not an emergency, contact one of our neurosurgery clinics for guidance. Do not wait for an online appointment request.
